container castors

Trewhella was originally asked to develop a simple way of handling containers by Vickers Ltd, who were amongst the first to develop containerisation and make containers.

We currently make two different systems for moving containers (Castors and Bogies), with our Trulift Jacks being used to lift containers off the ground to fit either system. The standardised shape of the ISO ‘box’, and the use of the corner castings that are an integral part of this standard design, make the Trewhella systems so versatile. Our castors or bogies fit to any container, anywhere.

Using Container Castors
Using Castors is the simplest way to move containers. Castors are available in two types - fixed and swivel. It is probably simplest to use a set of two fixed wheels one end, and two swivel castors the other. Castors are available in 5 sizes, dependant upon the weight to be moved – from the smallest T3 (3 tonnes) up to the largest T24 (24 tonnes).

T3 Castors
Used for moving containers up to 3 tonnes. The unit illustrated is fitted with an optional parking brake. A pneumatic tyre is used in the application shown, although we offer the options of cushioned or foam filled tyres, which have a slightly higher weight capacity.

T10 Castors,

For moving containers upto 3 tonnes gros weight. At this size we use wheels that have tyres made of 'Vulcolan' high grade polyurethane. The unit illustrated is shewn with our optional steering handle that may be moved to help positioning the unit.
