As well as the 'Monkey' winch, Trewhella have made a wide variety of winches for other applications. We have been particularly intersted in winches that use polyester webbing instead of rope.
Wallaby Winch
The 'Wallaby' is probably the best winch that Trewhella have ever made. The original design, for the British Army, is probably the only ratchet winch that has a safety brake. With most ratchet winches and jacks, if the handle is released before the pawl clicks into position, the handle will fly back, pulled by the force of the load. The 'Wallaby' design uses a patented double-acting brake mechanism to prevent this.
Principally designed for moving machinery, a 'Wallaby' can equally be used for traditional Trewhella land clearing work.
Strap winches -
We have been making strap winches for many years. Generally these are for 50mm wide polyester webbing.
The first of these were designed for the AA, in the days when broken down vehicles were pulled onto trailers by winches. Since then, we have produced the winch pictured here. This is a double geared winch that is used for maintaining the towed sonar array on the Navy's nuclear submarines
